Stephanie's Internship

I currently work as an accounting intern at Summit State Bank in Santa Rosa. One of the great things about my position is that it’s a small local bank so I get to see a very wide range of things and get a good idea of how a bank is run. I work for the controller and CFO of the bank so I really get to do a wide range of things. I work a lot on internal controls, verifying account balances at month ends to make sure there are no areas. We are just completing our year-end filings, so I have been heavily involved in that process. Some of my tasks have included helping with the auditors pulling support as well as getting to do small parts of the 10k report. One of the things that I really enjoy about my internship is that I really get to put to use the concepts that I learn in the classroom. My mentors at work really give me a lot of room to figure things out on my own and the guidance I need when I have questions. For me I find it really interesting working at a bank during the financial crisis and seeing some of the major differences between a larger bank and a local bank.

Annie's Internship
My name is Annie and I intern at Redwood Coast Petroleum as an accounting assistant. My position involves doing daily banking reports, journal entries/entries into the general ledger, data entry, reconciling accounts, tax work: claims for returns on excise taxes, and accounts payable.
I am learning all the aspects of the accounting cycle. This definitely helps me out in having a more hands on experience with real world accounting as oppose to learning from a book. My skills on excel have definitely improved and I think that this internship has given me a good outlook on what my employers will be expecting from me when I graduate and enter into the business world.
Tony's Internship
For the last nine months I have been interning with a financial institution in downtown Santa Rosa and the experience has been invaluable. Not only did having this internship provide me with a vessel to exhibit what I’ve learned in the classroom out in the workplace, but it has also taught me more than sitting in a classroom ever could. Throughout my internship, I’ve had the opportunity to develop an understanding of the financial consulting industry, and widen my scope of knowledge of capital markets. My day to day tasks did include minimum tedious, routine activities but more often than not I was given the opportunity to get my hands dirty and really understand the type of business that we were involved in. Most importantly this experience gave me the opportunity to network substantially and meet a diverse group of people that can not only help my career progress but can also help my day to day life progress as well. This internship opportunity has really gotten the ball rolling for my career and if I could go back and do it all again I definitely would!
